It’s That Wall!
Written and Photographed by JUN REYNALES.

R.O.X.Shop, BHS, BGC, Taguig City, June 10, 2012Yes, it’s that wall! In fact it is a 40ft. high wall that one beautiful Sunday afternoon, the day when the 2012 Sports Climbing Competition (as sanctioned by the Philippine Sports Commission),  saw the gathering of the best-of-the-best of the country’s fastest and the strongest men and women wall-climbers vied for the the top position. Being part of the elite circle of these men and women is the coveted national team to compete internationally.

Last sunday, upon the invitation of Ms. Laira Legaspi of Primer Group of Companies, to photograph and document the event amongst the local and national media this exhirilating event.
Alas, another fun weekend for me!

Spearheaded no less than Mr. Jacky Quintos, PGC’s energetic COO, with Ms. Ruby Palma,  fun and adventure-loving AVP, their dynamic PR executivess Ms. Laira Legaspi and Mr. Ean Sanchez, acknowledged the strong presence of the sport climbing athletes, enthusiasts, supporters, families and guests of the R.O.X. Bonifacio High Street. With such heart-pounding climbing prowess of the competitors complemented with loud cheers from the crowds, as they watched each climbed the newly-constructed 40ft. wall-climbing facility inside the shop, was wonderful sight (and photo opportunity for me). The structure, truly a world-class one, is managed by the PowerUP team – a well-known and experienced wall-climbers to the best in our country.

For us green-horns, non-climbers to be exact, that wall is a sheer long wall to climb!  You have to be either an adrenaline-junkie, or insane person, or a die-hard serious athlete to climb and be able to reach to the top. One thing is certain though – this kind of sport is not for the faint-hearted and only for a determined and selected few. One needs the strenght in focus, the mind-power to be able to decide, and the virtue of patience – that each climbing block, that each carabeener that one locks his or her safety line and harness – needs the right presence of mind to calculate which direction up to take. All routes climbing up pose no easy task. Each move, no matter how small an inch or two, can consider your doom or destiny of success. Advantage would be years of experience on the outdoors and the mountains, yes.. but does not guarantee you a quick success to victory on top. This wall shapes the direction of how one should learn and experience victory and success. So are you up for the challenge that this wall brings?

It’s that wall – whether you’re a die-hard athlete or an ordinary Juan Dela Cruz – that will determine which path to success to the top is the right one for you.

It is about the sport and not your destiny in life...
or could be both.

Indeed... Life is Good!
